What F1 means, in the maker's own words
An open thermal sensor, caused by excessive heat in the microwave cavity. The appliance has either got too hot or has lost the sensor that tells it how hot it is.
Where this code actually appears
On the control panel, and usually with a sound. Monogram describes their refrigerator codes as flashing green on the display and typically accompanied by a beeping, and the range, microwave and dishwasher tables all describe codes you can read from the front of the appliance. That is the opposite of some makes, where the number is written into a hidden log and never shown — here, if something is wrong, the appliance generally tells you. Photograph what it says before cutting the power, because a reset erases it and the code is most of the diagnosis.

Monogram built-in microwaves and microwave drawers. Monogram says plainly on their own range and oven table that they cannot list every code for every model past and present, so a code missing from their table is not proof that your appliance cannot raise it — and a code in it is not proof that yours can. The model number settles it.
What to do about it
- Let it cool and try again. A microwave under a hot cooking surface, or one that has run a long convection program, can genuinely overheat.
- Check the ventilation. A built-in microwave in a tall run depends on clearances that remodels sometimes take away.
- If it repeats when the appliance is cool, the thermal sensor and its wiring are measured.
- Do not keep running it while this stands.
