- “On a column pair, this is two appliances”
- “On one cabinet, it is airflow before it is refrigeration”
- “The damper between compartments is a real part”
Symptom
Monogram refrigerator warm and freezer cold
A cabinet where one side holds and the other does not. On a built-in side-by-side that is one machine with a delivery problem; on a pair of integrated columns it is two machines and only one of them is unwell. Which of those you have decides the entire diagnosis.

Six ordinary causes
What this usually turns out to be
Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.
-
A blocked vent or a packed load
The cold has to travel from where it is made to where it is wanted. A shelf loaded solid to the back wall stops it.
Diagnostic visit from $95 -
The damper
The flap that meters cold into the fresh-food side. When it sticks shut, one compartment is perfect and the other is not.
Diagnostic visit from $95 -
The evaporator fan
It moves the cold. When it stops, the freezer stays passable on conduction alone and the fresh-food side drifts up over days.
Refrigerator not cooling repair from $175 -
The defrost circuit
Ice on the coil blocks the airflow before it stops the cooling, which is exactly this picture.
Defrost system repair from $195 -
A sensor disagreeing with the cabinet
The control is obeying a bad reading faithfully.
Temperature sensor replacement from $165 -
On a column pair, the second machine
Not a shared problem at all. One appliance is unwell.
Column refrigeration repair from $195
In five minutes
Before you call anybody
None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.

01
Establish one cabinet or two
Look for two model plates. Two plates means two appliances and this page's first question is answered.
-
02
Measure both compartments
Numbers, from a thermometer, not impressions.
-
03
Find the vents
Usually at the back of the fresh-food compartment and between the sections. Clear a hand's width around them and give it a day.
-
04
Listen for the fan
With the door open the fan usually stops. Press the door switch and listen — silence where there should be air is informative.

About Monogram refrigerator warm and freezer cold
Which cabinet are we talking about
If your kitchen has two tall doors that look identical, check whether they are one refrigerator or two columns before anything else. Two columns are two appliances with two plates, two compressors and two sets of parts, and diagnosing the wrong one wastes a visit. On a single cabinet, look at the vents between the compartments — a box pushed against the return is a genuine and free answer.
What it usually means, by the kind of Monogram appliance
Monogram sells one appliance in several forms, and the same behavior points at different things on each of them. A built-in side-by-side and an integrated column are not the same service situation, and a dual-fuel range and an induction range fail in different halves.
- Built-in side-by-side — One sealed system serves both sides and the cold is shared through a duct and a damper. A freezer that is fine and a fresh-food side that is not points at that path rather than at the refrigeration.
- Integrated column pair — Two complete machines sharing an opening and a pair of matched panels. Nothing about the healthy column tells you anything about the other, and the plate on the one that is misbehaving is what we need.
- Bottom-freezer and French-door cabinets — Same shared-cold arrangement as the side-by-side, with the fresh-food section above the machinery — so a blocked return vent shows up here sooner than anywhere else.
The single most useful thing you can tell us
Whether the two doors belong to one appliance or two. Monogram sells built-in side-by-side cabinets and it sells integrated columns that are installed in pairs, and from the front of a finished kitchen they can look identical. One is a delivery problem inside a single machine. The other is one healthy appliance standing next to one that needs work, and the parts, the plate and the price are all different.

Before you book
Questions about monogram refrigerator warm and freezer cold
The freezer is fine so the compressor must be fine.
On a single cabinet, usually yes — which is why this complaint is good news. It points at airflow, a damper or a fan rather than at refrigeration. On a column pair it tells you nothing, because the two cabinets share nothing.
Can I just turn the fresh-food side colder?
It will mask it for a while and it will not fix it, and it usually starts freezing things at the back of the shelf. Worth knowing what is actually wrong first.
