Symptom
Monogram refrigerator door not sealing
The problem that almost nobody calls about and that causes several of the problems people do call about. On integrated cabinetry the door carries a custom panel on hinges shimmed for its weight, and doors settle. What you see is a line that no longer matches the run; what the appliance sees is humid air, all day, every day.

Six ordinary causes
What this usually turns out to be
Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.
-
A door that has settled
The hinge is out of adjustment or the shims no longer match the weight of the panel on the door.
Panel alignment and door adjustment from $145 -
A heavier panel fitted later
Remodels change panels and almost nobody re-shims the hinge or re-tensions the springs afterwards.
Panel alignment and door adjustment from $145 -
A gasket that has taken a set
Hardened, or permanently folded where it has been closed against something.
Door seal replacement from $165 -
A worn hinge
Beyond adjustment. An adjustment here buys months rather than fixing it.
Panel alignment and door adjustment from $145 -
Something in the way
A shelf, a bottle or a drawer that is not fully home, holding the door open by a fraction all day.
Diagnostic visit from $95 -
The cabinet is out of level
Rare, and it does happen after floors are replaced.
Appliance installation from $175
In five minutes
Before you call anybody
None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.
-
01
Do the paper test
All the way round, top and bottom, both doors.
-
02
Look along the panel line
Against the cabinet next to it. A door that has dropped shows at the top corner first.
-
03
Look for condensation
Beading on the inside of the cabinet near one edge of the door, or frost in one corner of the freezer, both point at where the leak is.
-
04
Check the hinge for play
Lift the door gently at the handle. Movement that was not there when the kitchen was new is the hinge, not the seal.
How it shows up
What people describe when they call
A shortcut
Narrow it down before anybody arrives
A description of the behaviour leaves a few possible causes. A code names the subsystem before anybody opens anything, which is why it is worth photographing before it clears.
If there is no code at all
The data plate is inside the cabinet, upper left wall or behind the grille. All models

About Monogram refrigerator door not sealing
The paper test, and it takes two minutes
Close a strip of paper in the door and pull it out, at several points around the perimeter and at several heights. Where it slides out freely, the seal is not sealing there. That is exactly the test we do, it costs nothing, and it tells you whether to book anything.
What it usually means, by the kind of Monogram appliance
Monogram sells one appliance in several forms, and the same behavior points at different things on each of them. A built-in side-by-side and an integrated column are not the same service situation, and a dual-fuel range and an induction range fail in different halves.
- Panel-ready doors — The panel is heavy and the hinge was set for it. Over years the door drops a few millimeters and the seal stops meeting the cabinet along the top edge first.
- Stainless doors — No panel weight, so the hinge holds longer — here the gasket itself is usually what has hardened or taken a set.
- Drawer units — Not a hinge at all. Runners and the drawer seal, which take a different kind of wear and are used far more often than a door.
Why this page exists at all
Because on a built-in kitchen it is a real, recurring job that nobody books, and because it is behind a good share of the calls people do book: frost that keeps coming back, a cabinet running constantly, a compartment that will not hold. All three can be a door. It is cheaper than any of them and it takes an hour.

Questions about monogram refrigerator door not sealing
It looks fine to me.
A gap that lets air through is smaller than a gap you can see. That is the whole reason for the paper test — it finds what the eye does not.
Can a new gasket fix a dropped door?
No, and this is where money gets wasted. A new seal on a door that no longer closes true seals in some places and not in others, which is the same as not sealing.
