Symptom
Monogram dishwasher will not start
On a fully integrated machine a dishwasher that will not start looks exactly like a cabinet door doing nothing, and the reason is usually that the appliance does not believe its door is shut. The latch is what fails; the door balance is usually why.

Six ordinary causes
What this usually turns out to be
Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.
-
A delay start that somebody set
The machine is waiting deliberately. Free to rule out and genuinely common.
Diagnostic visit from $95 -
The door latch
Engaging mechanically without closing the circuit, which reads as a dead appliance.

Door springs or cables
A door that falls open rather than staying where you put it has tired springs, and that is what wears the latch.
Dishwasher door latch repair from $145 -
Cup Open
The detergent cup is not latched. The cycle will not start until it is.
Diagnostic visit from $95 -
Power
A tripped breaker or a switch under the sink that somebody turned off.
Diagnostic visit from $95 -
The control
Last, and after the door and the supply have been eliminated.
Appliance control board repair from $295
In five minutes
Before you call anybody
None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.
-
01
Press the door closed and try again
Firmly. On panel-ready machines this is the answer more often than any part.
-
02
Read the top edge of the door
For a delay, a code, or Cup Open.
-
03
Check the breaker and the switch
There is often an isolating switch under the sink that gets knocked.
-
04
See whether the door stays where you put it
If it falls open, the springs have gone and the latch is next.
How it shows up
What people describe when they call
A shortcut
Narrow it down before anybody arrives
A description of the behaviour leaves a few possible causes. A code names the subsystem before anybody opens anything, which is why it is worth photographing before it clears.
If there is no code at all
The data plate is inside the cabinet, upper left wall or behind the grille. All models

About Monogram dishwasher will not start
Check the door and the delay before anything else
Push the door firmly closed and try again — on a panel-ready machine that alone starts a surprising number of them. Then look at the display on the top edge of the door for a delay start: 1H or 2H means the machine is waiting on purpose, which is not a problem and reads exactly like one.
What it usually means, by the kind of Monogram appliance
Monogram sells one appliance in several forms, and the same behavior points at different things on each of them. A built-in side-by-side and an integrated column are not the same service situation, and a dual-fuel range and an induction range fail in different halves.
- Panel-ready doors — A heavy custom panel on springs sized for it. When they weaken the door drops fast, the latch stops engaging cleanly, and the machine refuses to run.
- Stainless doors — No panel weight, so the latch itself or its switch is the more likely half.
- After a power cut — PF on the display simply means the supply was interrupted — select a cycle and press start and it runs normally.
Why an integrated machine hides this
There is no light, no beep you would notice from across the room, and no visible control panel. A machine that has refused to start and a machine that has finished look identical. The top edge of the door is where the appliance is trying to tell you something, and it is worth checking before you assume anything has failed.

Before you book
Questions about monogram dishwasher will not start
It hums but does not fill.
That is not this page — a machine that responds is starting. Check the water supply valve under the sink, and look for H2O on the display.
It started working again by itself.
Intermittent latch or door balance, almost always. It will come back, and it is cheaper to deal with before it does something to the floor.
