What DE means, in the maker's own words
Demonstration mode. Lights and controls behave completely normally and the cooling system is switched off on purpose. It is how a showroom floor model runs, and it is how one occasionally arrives in a house — a refrigerator that looks perfectly alive and is not cold.
Where this code actually appears
On the control panel, and usually with a sound. Monogram describes their refrigerator codes as flashing green on the display and typically accompanied by a beeping, and the range, microwave and dishwasher tables all describe codes you can read from the front of the appliance. That is the opposite of some makes, where the number is written into a hidden log and never shown — here, if something is wrong, the appliance generally tells you. Photograph what it says before cutting the power, because a reset erases it and the code is most of the diagnosis.
Which machines this one applies to
Monogram refrigeration with electronic dispenser controls. Monogram says plainly on their own range and oven table that they cannot list every code for every model past and present, so a code missing from their table is not proof that your appliance cannot raise it — and a code in it is not proof that yours can. The model number settles it.
What to do about it
- Unplug the appliance for a minute or two and plug it back in. That is the manufacturer's own instruction and it clears most of them.
- If DE is still showing after that, the manufacturer asks to be contacted with the model number — it is not a repair you can force.
- Do not confuse this with the lower-case dE, which is the defrost system and is a completely different conversation.
