Repair cost

Monogram diagnostic visit cost

One figure, credited against the repair, and the only number on this site that is not an estimate. It buys a measured answer rather than a guess, and on built-in equipment it also buys a plan for getting at the appliance without damaging the kitchen around it.

  • From $95 diagnostic, credited to the repair
  • 59 cities and neighborhoods covered
  • OEM parts available on order
  • In writing the price, before anything is opened

The short version

Where this figure comes from

A starting point for built-in appliances in South Florida, published so the number is not a mystery until somebody is standing in your kitchen.

What moves it

Why two of the same job cost different amounts

These apply at the same time and in both directions. Which of them is true of your kitchen is what the on-site diagnostic settles.

  • What the appliance is and where it sits

A 48-inch built-in, a 24-inch undercounter unit and a wall oven in a tall run are three different access problems. That is settled on the phone, not in your kitchen.

  • Whether there is a code to read

A code narrows the visit before it starts. On the integrated dishwasher it is on the top edge of the door, which is why most owners have never seen it.

  • How many appliances are involved

Kitchens like these usually have several of ours in them. Looking at a second appliance on the same visit costs a fraction of a second visit.

  • Whether it turns out to be nothing

It sometimes does — a mode, a setting, a filter, a pan that is not magnetic. The fee is what makes it possible for us to say so instead of finding something.

  • What the installation costs in time

A freestanding appliance is pulled out; a built-in one is not. Panels, trim and sometimes a neighboring cabinet come off in an order and go back the same way, and that time is real work rather than padding.

The work itself

What we actually do

The job behind the figure: what it involves, when a symptom points at it, and what we check first.

  • Gloved hands holding a multimeter's probes against two terminals inside the opened service compartment of a built-in appliance, warm torchlight on the metal, dark kitchen behind.

    Diagnostic visit

Nothing is named until something has been measured. On built-in appliances the visit also has to plan its own access before it starts: a column comes out from the front, a panel-ready door comes apart in an order, and a wall oven that has to move needs two people and a plan. We do that thinking before we arrive rather than in your kitchen.

    • The model number first, because it decides the access
    • What the appliance reports, read against the published table
    • Credited toward the repair when you go ahead

About Monogram diagnostic visit cost

What the visit actually is

An hour or so with the appliance, the plate, the display and whatever instrument the symptom calls for — a thermometer, a meter, a pressure gauge. It ends with a written scope and a figure, and it ends before anything is opened.

Why it is a fixed figure on this site

Because a diagnostic that is free has to be paid for somewhere, and it gets paid for by finding something. A charged visit that is credited against the work is how a technician can tell you honestly that your refrigerator is fine and the door was left ajar.

What it does not cover

Parts, and any repair that follows. Those are quoted on the visit and agreed before they start.

Questions about monogram diagnostic visit cost

Is the fee credited if I go ahead?

Yes. It comes off the repair, so a diagnostic that leads to work costs you nothing extra.

Can you diagnose it over the phone?

We can narrow it, and we will — for free, because it saves both of us a visit that was never needed. What we will not do is name a part and a price down a telephone line. That is how people end up paying for a control board because a filter was blocked.
