# Monogram oven cooking too hot or too cold

### Measure it properly before you decide

An oven thermometer in the middle of the cavity, set to 350, and read after the oven has been at temperature for twenty minutes rather than two. Then check a second temperature — 450 will do. A constant offset and an error that grows with heat are different problems, and one reading cannot tell them apart.

### What calibration can and cannot do

It can move a steady offset back where it belongs, which is what it is for and what most of these calls need. It cannot fix an oven that swings, overshoots, cannot hold, or takes far too long to get there. Those are the sensor, the elements or the control, and an offset applied to any of them just moves the problem.

Ordinary drift

Ovens leave the factory within a tolerance and move over years. The calibration offset exists for exactly this.

The temperature sensor

F3 and F4 name it. Measured against its published curve rather than replaced on suspicion.

A partially failed element

Heat that arrives unevenly reads as heat that does not arrive.

The convection fan

On models that have one, a fan that has stopped changes everything about how the cavity behaves.

A door that is not sealing

An oven leaking heat at the top of the door runs cool at the top of the cavity.
