It is one of the more satisfying repairs on this list because the part is measurable: either it reads what it should at a known temperature or it does not. The wiring between it and the control is the other half of the check.

### The oven is showing F3. Is that definitely the sensor?

F3 is an open oven temperature sensor circuit, which is the sensor or the wiring to it. F4 is the same circuit shorted. Both are measured before anything is replaced, because a good sensor reporting through a corroded connector fails exactly like a bad sensor and replacing the sensor fixes it for about a month.

### Can a bad sensor damage anything else?

On an oven it can let the cavity run over temperature, which is hard on everything in it — that is what F2 is telling you. On refrigeration it mostly costs food and electricity. Neither is a reason to panic, both are reasons not to leave it.
