# Monogram panel alignment and door adjustment

### About panel alignment on an integrated kitchen

This is the job that only exists because the doors belong to the cabinetry rather than to the appliance. A custom panel is heavy, the hinge was shimmed for its weight on installation day, and over years the door settles a few millimeters. The visible symptom is a line that no longer matches the run. The invisible one is a seal that has stopped meeting the cabinet along its top edge, and humid Florida air walking into a refrigerator every hour of every day.

What this involves

Hinges, springs and shims set back to specification

The seal checked along its whole length, not by eye

Panel lines put back level with the run

Look at the run, not just the door

A panel that has dropped is measured against its neighbors, because on integrated cabinetry the reference is the kitchen and not the appliance.

Find out whether it is the hinge or the seal

A door that closes true onto a tired gasket and a good gasket on a door that no longer closes true are different repairs with the same symptom.

Check the door's weight against what the hinge was set for

Panels get replaced during remodels, sometimes with heavier ones, and nobody re-shims the hinge. That is a common cause and an easy one to correct.

Adjust, then verify with a real test

A strip of paper closed in the door along its length, at several heights. Either it grips everywhere or the seal is not meeting everywhere.

Say what caused it

If a door dropped because the hinge is worn rather than out of adjustment, an adjustment is a few months of relief and not a repair, and we will tell you that.

### Is a panel that looks slightly off really worth a service call?

On a refrigerator or a freezer, yes, and sooner rather than later. A door that no longer closes true gives the defrost circuit work it was never sized for, and that arrives months later as frost that keeps coming back and a compressor that never rests. The adjustment is cheap; the consequence is not.

### Our panels were changed in a remodel and now the doors do not sit right.

That is a common and completely fixable cause. Replacement panels are often heavier than the originals, and almost nobody re-shims the hinges or re-tensions the door springs afterwards. Setting them for the actual weight of the panel that is now on the door usually resolves it without new parts.
