# Monogram oven door lock repair

### About the self-clean door lock

The door locked during self-clean and has not released, or the oven refuses to run because it believes the door is not shut. On these ovens the latch is a motorized assembly, reported as F9 or FC, and a very large share of these calls end with the simplest answer: the cavity is still too warm for the lock to release. Forcing it turns a modest repair into an expensive one.

What this involves

F9 and FC name the latch circuit

Almost always appears after a self-clean cycle

Never forced open

Let it cool completely first

A self-clean lock will not release until the cavity is cool, and that can take hours. A great many of these calls end here.

Read the code

F9 and FC point at the lock and the latch component respectively.

Test the latch motor and its switches

Whether it drives, and whether the control is being told where it is.

Replace the assembly

Usually as a unit, because the motor and the switch pack fail together.

Cycle the lock several times

Locked, unlocked, and a short self-clean run watched to completion.

### How long should I wait before assuming it is broken?

After a full self-clean cycle, a couple of hours at least, and longer in a hot kitchen. The lock is a safety interlock and it releases on temperature rather than on time. If the oven is cold to the touch and it is still locked, then it is the latch.

### Should I run self-clean at all?

It is a hard cycle on an appliance — everything in the cavity sees temperatures it does not otherwise see, which is why latch and sensor problems so often surface right afterwards. Used occasionally it is fine. Used monthly, it is why we get called.
